Anonymous party of 2 rated the food at Walt's Fish
Market on March 2, 2010 as good because it was "good, hot and tasty"
and writes: "We waited 45 minutes for our sandwiches. Our fries
didn't arrive at the table until 15 minutes after the meal was
finished. Although they we deducted from the bill, the manager
didn't seem to care whatsoever. No apology or explanation. I'm a
fulltime resident of Sarasota and work here also. I definitely will
have second thoughts about ever visiting this establishment again."

dinner of Florida Lobster, Grouper, Flounder poor because,
"Florida Lobster was over cooked, so it was rubbery, dry and
tasteless." and writes on August 18, 2009, "I was told the
Florida Lobster was really good by the waitress so I ordered it.
It was not good at all. The worst Lobster I have ever had. It
was over cooked, rubbery, dry and tasteless. I thought that was
maybe how Florida Lobsters were but after the meal the waitress
said it should have been tender and sweet. For $20.00 they
should never have brought it to the table that over cooked. We
had gone here for our anniversary to try a new place and came
away very disappointed and will most likely never go back."

the oysters, grouper, alligator, crab excellent because, "Very
tasty, plentiful, great variety of fish, hot" and writes on
April 29, 2009, "This was my first time in Florida, and I wanted
an authentic fish experience that I can't get at home. We picked
Walt's from the phone book and I think I picked a winner! There
were so many kinds of fish to pick from we finally just ordered
plates and decided to share bites. The alligator was very good,
oysters were huge, grouper pieces were very large, although a
bit dry. I assume grouper is that way. The sides were also very
tasty, even the applesauce! The waitress was very accommodating
to whatever we wanted. The smoked mullet spread could be a meal
in itself.
As far as ambience, we ate at the large table by the freezer
case. Very interesting! There are many photos and stuffed fish
on the wall to keep you occupied while you wait on your food, as
well as checking out all the different items in the display
case. I would suggest that table if it is free.
If I had any complaint, it would be that there was a bit of a
wait on the food, maybe 20 minutes or so, but we did have 7
people. But it was worth it. If I lived in Sarasota, I would
work my way through their entire menu over time!
When we left, the waitress even asked if we wanted her to take
our picture next to a large sailfish on the wall. I had taken my
camera inside and took a lot of pictures. We were there at about
2 PM on a Sunday, and the place was nearly empty, but did fill
up a bit later.
I will be recommending Walt's to all my friends."

Overall Experience: 1 Sunny Talcott party of 2
rated the Fresh halibut, conch fritters, lobster bisque, fried
okra, new potatoes excellent because, "fresh, delicious and
served hot. " and writes on April 10, 2009, "Having been raised
by a sea-faring dad, I've enjoyed fresh, home-cooked, delicious
seafood all of my life. So when my husband and I decided to go
out to eat the other night, we looked for a restaurant with good
seafood. That was not as easy as one would think. After an
embarrassing experience, we left a seafood restaurant due to
poor quality of food and service. The fish was imported frozen,
and therefore was tasteless and mushy. The clam chowder had no
clams in it. The prices were ridiculous and the management was
embarrassing. After trying multiple times to get something with
flavor, we left. Hungry and upset, we stopped at Walt's on a
whim. I have to say, I was most impressed by both the food and
the service. Marcy, our waitress was knowledgeable and pleasant.
She knew the menu and had excellent recommendations. We had
fresh grilled halibut, which was deliciously moist and flaky.
The lobster bisque was filled with lobster pieces and spiced
perfectly in a rich, creamy sauce. The hush puppies burst with
flavor of onion and corn with just the right amount of
sweetness. The conch fritters were delightfully spicy with a
touch of red pepper, just as they should be. The new potatoes
tasted just like home, soft with garlic and butter. Even the
okra was cooked to perfection, with no greasy aftertaste. The
key lime pie was tart and tasty. We had no complaints. All of
the servers were friendly and the atmosphere made you want to
come back...which we will, tomorrow as a matter of fact, and
this time we will share this wonderful discovery with our
family. "

Overall Experience: 1 Anonymous had lunch at Walt's
Fish Market and rated the Fried Grouper and Scallops poor
because, "seafood was not fresh, tough and over cooked" and
writes on March 18, 2009, "at 1:00pm I entered the
establishment. I was not acknowledged until 8 minutes later. I
received a ice tea 12 minutes later....followed by food 5
minutes later. I was alone, and the business crowd was
narrowing. Wait staff were not happy people, and appeared
somewhat chaotic. I received my food which was the least
favorite part of the experience. The fried grouper was tough and
the fried scallops were tiny bay scallops, overcooked and like
rubber. This was my third visit, and three times
disappointed.... nothing here to write home about - and never
will return ! The establishment needs cleaning, staff needs
training, and the manager did not have enough change in the cash
register, just shy on pennies to make change, so he offered
"extra fries next time" - what is that all about? Really
unprofessional and amateur players working here"

the soup, hush puppies, fish sandwich excellent because, "great!
The hush puppies were huge, piping hot and absolutely excellent.
Service was fast." and writes on February 4, 2009, "A friend and
I went to Walt's on a whim and it was the best decision! The
fish sandwiches were so tasty. The hush puppies were the size of
golf balls and the best I've ever had. It is a very casual place
(disposable utensils) but definitely worth planning a trip to.
The service was fast and the portions were plentiful."

Overall Experience: 1 Dr. Bob party of 2 rated the food at Walt's Fish
Market as fair because, "That is what we thought about it." and
writes on January 5, 2007, "The restaurant was not clean; messy
tables and 'sticky' floor'. The overall atmosphere was one of an
old, poorly maintained facility. Our waitress quickly came over to
take our order. Unfortunately to that was the last we saw of her for
about 15 minutes. When she did finally arrive with our dinners, she
had forgotten the smoked fish dip and cracker appetizers and also
the chowder soup. She did bring them out after I asked about them.
After we ate on black plastic portio plates with plastic utensils,
she again disappeared for another 10 - 15 minutes. Finally we asked
the other waitress about the bill and she brought it to us.
Went here for the first and last time"
