party of 5 had lunch at Pop's and rated the grouper Philly,
chicken Philly, clam chowder, and crab cakes poor because,
"awful looking, and was barely edible." and writes on April 29,
2007, "We thought we were doing well when we tasted our first
margaritas while waiting for a table...then the waiter brought a
second round and they tasted nothing like the first. very
watered down...The clam chowder was also very watery. it looked
like they were trying to stretch it out for a long Sunday
afternoon. I just wanted a grilled grouper sandwich, but was
told I could only get it fried, so I ordered the Grouper
Philly...It looked like it wasn't even cooked and had a ton of
bread with it. my boyfriend's chicken Philly was just as
bad...all bread with little chicken and even less onions and
peppers...Worst excuse for a Philly cheese ever...My aunt
ordered crab cakes and they looked like black bricks...also very
poor tasting...We were very disappointed to say the least and
would never return...We should have gone to Sharky's and will
next time...Just because you have a great location, it doesn't
mean you can have a restaurant and pass that stuff off as food.
By the way...we are locals...."

Brewster ordered party of 4 ordered grouper Reuben, steamship
pot, steamed garlic mussels, shrimp scampi and rated the food
very good because, "it was inexpensive, a great variety of fresh
fish and the view couldn't be beat. what a sunset! now i realize
the justification for the name!" and writes on July 26, 2006,
"pop's is one of the few remaining waterfront restaurants that
have not closed and given way to the condos and high-rises. it
may not be spotless and new but it is well worth the trip! the
view is great, i can't believe the county cut up the old tree
across the way that all the kids played in and jumped out of,
but that's a whole other review. the food is very good and
reasonably priced, they are not gouging prices like some other
local waterfront places have done! i just can't say enough. and
they have a new gift shop that is more in tune and reasonably
priced then the previous one. great stuff! plus there is a fish
market there. who knew?! go now folks, while it's off-season, it
gets really packed when the "birds" come back."

ordered fried fish, grouper, shrimp and rated the food very good
because, "price, quantity, quality" and writes on June 28, 2004,
"This place is what Margaritaville would be if Jimmy Buffett was
still a regular Florida guy and not a corporation. Good, fresh
seafood, great drinks, live music again (now that the county has
shut up the complaining neighbors). Really a place for enjoying
SW Florida weather, water, food, and drinks. Wish they could get
Jin Morris to sing there again. He would be the perfect
addition, since he is the Buffett for the regular guy." |
