Ron Bowman party of 4 had dinner at Hemingway's on St.
Armands and rated the steak, grouper and chicken, etc. poor because,
"a $28.00 steak that was the worst I have ever had in my life." and
writes on March 26, 2007, "Since my wife and I were guests of some
friends that have a winter home on Longboat Key, we were invited
down to spend the day and go out to dinner. Our host had a 6:00PM
reservation at Hemingway's. We had been there before but this time I
personally could not have been more disappointed. My $28.00 steak
was probably the WORST I have ever had in my 66 years. Since our
host was picking up the tab, I felt I could not complain about my
meal because it is one of their favorite places but next time we get
together with them I will suggest another place to have a good meal.
I did not want to embarrass our good friends and complain about my
meal. When the meal is bad, the overall rating can be non other than
poor. The young man waiting on us was very attentive and did a great
job. "

St. Armands and rated the Grouper Oscar, Grouper with lemon sauce
and capers poor because, "Green beans were tough, not enough sauce
on Grouper Oscar" and writes on December 30, 2006, "On this date I
took my very dear friends from Orlando to show them we had special
restaurants here. My favorite being Hemingway's on the circle. I was
very disappointed and could not brag very much. OOPS Will not be
going back any time soon."

time. Great food and service. Check it out when you're in Sarasota."

Overall Experience: 1 Anonymous party of 2 rated the
grouper fair because, "The taste was just o.k., nothing
outstanding." and writes on March 8, 2006, "I rated this
restaurant mostly 'fair'. This was our first visit to
Hemingway's, and as for service, we felt mostly ignored during
our visit. Server seemed bothered by patrons. Lots of empty
tables and plenty of servers, but service was very slow. Server
never came back to check on us, we barely even got a thank-you
at the end of our meal. Manager walked around constantly, but
never asked any diners how their meals were. The food was also
'fair', nothing fancy. The fried grouper was too crispy on the
outside and soggy on the inside. Was supposed to come with
coleslaw, but got island fries instead, with no explanation.
Will stick with Tommy Bahamas and Columbia on future visits to
St. Armands Circle...will steer clear of Hemingway's from now
on."

great place to eat in St. Armands. The atmosphere is casual and fun
and the food is outstanding. We have had several dishes, from steaks
to seafood and everything was always outstanding. Every time we go
back to Longboat Key, we have dinner at Hemingway's!"
A. D. Watson writes us on 1/28/2003: "I rate the food
diabolical.
My mother came to visit from The Uk for 2 weeks vacation and as
tonight was her last night, my wife and I decided to 'take her
somewhere special'. I found the meal to be less than acceptable.
I ordered a peppered steak, which I requested be cooked well
done, but not charred. The waitress noted my request on her pad,
but when it arrived, the steak was indeed charred, so much so,
that I could have taken it outside and used it for portraits. It
was charcoal. Upon complaining, one of the managers came to ask
if all was OK. When I voiced my opinion of the meal, I was told
that as I had eaten 'a majority portion of the meal, it was
Hemmingway's policy to charge for the whole meal regardless of
the patrons dissatisfaction. In my opinion, Hemmingway's
attitude towards customers leaves a great deal to be desired and
if I ever establish who the owners are, I will certainly
communicate my displeasure, if only to satisfy my own chagrin" |
