of 4 had dinner at Epicure in Downtown Sarasota and rated the
food good and writes on November 29, 2006, "the food was
reasonably good as my wife and i went with another couple that
had previously been there. I paid with my debit card and the
other couple paid a generous cash tip. When i checked my bank
statement it seemed they added an add ional 20 percent to my
debit card without my knowledge. i drove to the epicure to speak
to Joe the manager and he tried to show me some other couples
bill on my card. the restaurant wouldn't make it right, and i
have made my first and last trip. I suggest if you hate your
money go there. they will cheat you right"

party of 2 rated the food excellent and writes on January 30,
2005, "When busy this restaurant is loud, but that just means
it's popular, people are having fun, and you can bring the kids
without fear of disturbing others. Service was attentive despite
the fact they were completely full. Only problem was we had to
ask for our bread basket three times. But, oh the bread! I could
sit and eat the bread all day. It's served with an olive paste
which I loved (but my husband did not.) The bread in the panini
sandwiches is also excellent, makes the sandwich for me. The
soup was undersalted which I appreciated because so much
restaurant food is over salted and it so easy to add your own if
you wish. The desserts looked good but we were too full to try
any. We will go back." Anonymous
had lunch at Epicure and rated the food excellent because, "It
was extremely fresh, seasoned to perfection and is in my opinion
the most authentic Italian cuisine in this area." and writes on
November 26, 2004, "On November 13, 2004 a friend and I had the
pleasure of dining at Cafe Epicure, one of our most favorite
Italian restaurants. On this occasions, we ordered lunch which
included lasagna in a light béchamel tomato sauce prepared as if
we were in Italy, a spinach frittata seasoned and prepared to
perfection with fresh ricotta as an accompaniment, and our
favorite, Insalata Tropicale which included the freshest arugula,
hearts of palm, sweet avocado and fine shavings of parmigiana
reggiano. Also included was freshly baked bread that rivals any
bread found in Europe. The food is simply authentic, hearty and
fresh, served in a European city atmosphere and is always
consistent and outstanding and the service is equally
outstanding. We often drive from St. Petersburg to Sarasota just
to experience their cuisine." Jim
Robertson
rated the food poor because, "Veal Marsala was horrible. In
2003 it was excellent.." Jim Robertson has eaten at Epicure 6
times and writes, "We come July 4th each year and stay at our
condo on Palm Avenue. We eat out every day and night and try all
local restaurants. In 2003 it was excellent. The chef must have
changed from 2003 to 2004 because the veal Marsala was horrible.
I should have asked for a full refund. The veal was tough and
the Marsala sauce was too runny and not full bodied enough." |
