had lunch at Empress Gardens and rated the egg drop soup, sweet
& sour chicken very good because, "the sweet & sour chicken was
delicious and tender. It was only short of "excellent" because
the sauce wasn't as good as other places I've eaten." and writes
on November 15, 2006, "I started with egg drop soup, which was
very good. As I finished my last spoonful, the main course
(sweet & sour chicken with fried rice) was brought out. The
timing was perfect! The chicken was moist and tender, although
the sauce wasn't as good as I've had at other restaurants.
However, I rated the "value for money" and "overall experience"
POOR because, upon leaving, I left a 75 cent tip (my total came
to $5.08, so that was nearly 15%). At the cash register, I was
given several $1 bills as change and was told IN NO UNCERTAIN
TERMS to leave $1 at the table. I told the woman that I had
already left a tip, but she repeated that I am to leave a $1.
Not wanting to cause a scene (and not wanting to have my next
meal tampered with if/when I return), I went back and put a $1
on the table, and found that my 75 cents had disappeared. So
then ... they got a $1.75 tip on a $5.08 bill -- that's 34.4%!!!
Needless to say, I WON'T EVER be going back there again!"

party of 2 ordered Pork fr. rice, sweet & sour chicken and rated
the food excellent because, "it was simply delicious and I can
always count on it being great!" and writes on December 10,
2004, "When my friend and I ate at Empress Gardens
it was excellent as always. The pork fried rice was tasty, the
sweet and sour chicken was tender, the wonton soup was delicious
without that watered down taste. The service was friendly and
quick, which is nice when you have to get back to work in 30
minutes." |
