Anonymous party of 4 had dinner at the Chart
House on Longboat Key 15 Jan 2010 and rated the crab cakes, grouper,
mahi mahi as very good because "food was good, as expected" and
writes "The food wass generally good, as one would expect from Chart
House. However the service was awful:
1. guests appetizers served ten minute apart.
2. then after a 30 minute wait we were told the fish originally
ordered was not available. Although the server had told us that it
was 'just coming', the reality was that it had not even been
started. This was close to an hour after our original order was
taken.
3. when after a further 30 minute wait the entrees arrived, two were
incorrect. We were served king crab rather than the dungeness as
ordered, and I was served rice rather than the potatos as ordered.
4. hot water earlier ordered never arrived.
5. We were not told in advance that the lava cake required 30
minutes advance notice, so having spent most of the evening waiting
we were not too interested in a further wait.
The kitchen was likely in chaos and the server was completeely out
of her depth. a truly bad dining experience."

Overall Experience: 4 Anonymous party of 3 had dinner at the Chart House on
Longboat Key and rated the Salad Bar, Baked potato, prawns, hot
chocolate Lava cake excellent because, "It is just fantastic!!" and
writes on September 28, 2006, "This is an old favourite of ours. We
are from England, so we do not get to eat at this restaurant very
often, but it is still one of my favourites.
Every time, our table is never read when we arrive, giving us the
opportunity to go and have a drink in their bar (my mother often has
the Chocolate Wave, which she absolutely ADORES), and I normally
have a soft drink.
I am a very fussy eater, so whenever I go to the Chart House, all I
have for my starter and main course is the salad bar and a baked
potato. Their salad bar is just sensational!!! Their baked potato is
cooked just how I like it!
Of course, no visit is complete without having the Hot Chocolate
Lava cake. This takes a long time to cook, so it has to be ordered
at the same time as the main courses, but it is the BEST DESSERT
EVER!!!! (and I should know!!)
In conclusion, this is one of the best restaurants in Sarasota, and
anyone who hasn't been there doesn't know what they are missing."

Overall Experience: 1 Anonymous ordered the Salad Bar, Beef Tenderloin, Rack
of Lamb and rated the food excellent because, "Everything was
perfect. Even the bread is outstanding and rises above all
expectations." and writes on 1/16/2004: "This was an outstanding
meal. First, food. The bread is great, especially the flatbread. The
salad bar is outstanding, as are pre-made Caesar and House salads.
All of us had this. We ordered, four entrees, 3 Tenderloin
Medallions, Rack of Lamb, and Blacked Fresh Catch Salmon. The
Tenderloin Medallions are served in a sweet, tangy mango sauce. They
were also incredibly tender. They came with excellent, light, fluffy
garlic mashed potatoes. The Fresh Catch option is great because it
lets you have your fish, your way. The two oddball meals were
supposedly outstanding. Then we had the famous Chocolate Lava Cake,
the best dessert ever created by man. Service is friendly and
efficient. Ambiance is very good, but the restaurant's interior is a
little 80's. Cleanliness is outstanding, and the chef is happy to
accommodate a child's request, although many first-time customers
may not know you can do this, hence the 2. "Charts" is worth the
money." Anonymous who has been to the Longboat Key Chart House
4 times rated the food excellent because, "It was!" and writes on
May 25, 2003, "This restaurant is fantastic! We had a party of six
{two being children}. The spinach salad is to die for! The crab
cakes are the BEST I have ever eaten!. My husband had the Ahi tuna
and raved about it. Our daughter thought the steak was great and our
son-in-law loved Everything! As for the girls, they had a great
time. Our server, Brian, was nothing less than fantastic! He did a
fantastic job as a waiter, bartender and was especially kind to our
grandchildren. It is definitely a must try!" Danny Greer writes on 3/15/2003: "The service by
Valerie was great. My prime rib was very good. My wife's tapoli was
the best she ever had. My daughters NY strip was a little over
cooked but was tasty.. Maybe med. is cooked too well. Enjoyed the
evening and are going back." Peter Brown says he has
visited 18 times and writes: "Although from England where we
have a selection of fine restaurants I am yet to find a
restaurant locally that matches the all round caliber of the
Chart House. We regularly visit Longboat Key and always visit
this restaurant on our first evening out. Not only because of
the excellent food but also because of the warm welcome we
receive, the fabulous setting and the overall ambience. My
favourite starter has to be the Chicken Satay which you can heat
yourself at your table, I normally follow this with their
excellent Fillet steak or sometimes I treat myself to a Pork
Chop accompanied by their delicious Jacket Potato and a side
salad from their mouthwatering salad bar. Wash this all down
with a superb bottle of red wine chosen from the extensive wine
list and it truly makes a memorable evening out. Longboat Key is
awash with fantastic restaurants but this has always been and
will always be my favourite." |
