Anonymous party of 6 had dinner at Caragiulos and
rated the Lasagna, pizza, Veal Marsala very good because, "The food
is always good" and writes on November 25, 2006, "Since we live in
the small town of Venice, we will often drive to a restaurant in
Sarasota. We have very much enjoyed the Italian food at Carajulio's
on Palm Avenue. Tonight, we made reservations for a party of 6 at
6pm. The restaurant called and confirmed the reservations.
Everything was fine until we ordered our coffee. A few minutes after
our coffee was served (7:28 pm) and we had paid the bill, our waiter
returns to the table and tells us that they need our table since
they had 7:30 reservations for the tables we were occupying. My
coffee was still hot; and, I was sipping it. We finished our meal
and got up from the table. After saying our goodbyes to the other
people in our party, I returned into the restaurant and asked for
the manager. I explained that if we were allowed 1 1/2 hours to
dine, we should have been told that when we made the reservations.
The manager did say that they will allow 1 hour and 45 minutes and
sometimes up to 2 hours for a party to dine. The manager said the
waiter should not have said anything to us and said it would not
happen again. I told the manager that we drove to Sarasota from
Venice. We enjoyed Carajulio's; we brought other people to the
restaurant, and have never been treated this way before. We are not
snow birds - we frequent Carajulio's all year long. The manager told
us that he had already apologized to us and didn't know what else we
wanted him to do! The manager was young - perhaps in his 20's. It is
interesting that Sarasota Magazine writes up Carajulio's as having
service straight from Grandma's heart! Seems to me that this manager
does not have a clue as to what good service is. It seems as though
Carajulio's does not care. It must have been around 7:40 or so when
we finished talking with the manager. There were only 2 people
sitting at the table from which we were asked to leave!!"
