Updated 8/12/2016
While the CDC has issued warnings for a small part of Miami, FL, there is no indication of any Zika infections by mosquito in Sarasota County or anywhere in surrounding counties. The distance from Sarasota to Miami is approximately the same as from Boston to New York City.

Sarasota County has for years had an active mosquito control program.

The Sarasota County Health Department is monitoring the situation and is prepared to test for the disease. There has been one travel related case in Sarasota County and Charlotte County (south) and two in Manatee County (north). The only confirmed locally acquired cases of transmission are in a very small area in Miami-Dade County.

The Zika Virus Information Hotline is available 24/7 at 855-622-6735.
